China Telecom, Unicom ask NDRC to stop investigation

China Telecom and China Unicom have made pledges to ensure internet interconnection and standardised leased line prices in a bid to halt a further investigation by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). The anti-trust investigation is aimed at the companies' pricing of internet leased line services. Both companies issued statements saying their internal investigations identified room for improvement. China Telecom said that the interconnection between the company and other backbone network operators does not fully meet the requirements of governing authorities and said it would carry out a capacity expansion with other backbone network operators such as China Unicom and China Tietong and reduce the price for direct interconnection with China Tietong. China Telecom also said it would standardise leased line tariffs and examine existing leased line agreements. China Unicom said its interconnection with other backbone operators could be improved and also promised to work on its leased line pricing. Both companies pledged to continue investments in internet networks and services.
