Adtran announces SDN and NFV product enhancements

US networking company Adtran has announced it is undertaking an enhancement of its broadband enterprise and wifi access portfolio with SDN and NFV open architectures.

“Adtran has a deep history in designing service delivery platforms for both service provider and enterprise networks,” said Jay Wilson, SVP of technology and strategy at Adtran. “We have helped our customers successfully navigate multiple eras of network transformation and service migration.

“This transition to service virtualization and network orchestration is no different. Our experience, combined with our commitment to open source software, allows us to optimize the tight interaction between SDN-based networks and virtualized applications. This accelerates the network transformation.”

“Service providers are under tremendous pressure to transform their business to accelerate the faster introduction of services, while providing compelling content for their customers. This requires their networks to be agile and more operationally efficient, which is where virtualization and software defined networking comes into play,” said Teresa Mastrangelo, Analyst at Heavy Reading.

In other news Adtran has also announced it has enabled Gigabit broadband service to over 200 communities in the US, claiming to be the first broadband infrastructure supplier to do so. This marks a milestone in Adran’s rural connectivity initiative.

“When we launched our Enabling Communities, Connecting Lives program a little over a year ago, we envisioned every community regardless of size could realize the transformative benefits of Gigabit broadband,” said Wilson. “Thanks to the momentum of our customers, we are far surpassing our initial goals and the vision is becoming a reality, with more than 200 communities now reaping the benefits of Gigabit services.”
